Skaneateles Annual Curbstone Festival and Sidewalk Sale

This weekend is the much-anticipated Curbstone Festival in Skaneateles.  Almost all the shops in town have fabulous sidewalk sales happening and there are many bargains to be found!  At Gallery 54 some of our artists will have "seconds" for sale.  These are items with very minor imperfections at greatly reduced prices.  We will also have great prices on items we are clearing out and even some art supplies/ beads.  Come check it out!  The event runs Thursday through Saturday.  Hope to see you there!!

Welcome Summer

Many of our artists participated this weekend in the Westcott Art Trail in Syracuse, NY.  Lauren Ritchie, one of our potters, was among a group who started this fabulous event.  Each year on the first weekend in June, artists set up on porches, in lawns and gardens throughout the Westcott neighborhood with unique hand-crafted and local items for sale.  One of our artists who participated was Bill Perrine, also a potter.  We LOVE his new sugar bowl with the sweetest fawn on its lid, currently available at Gallery 54.

Another of our artists who participated this weekend was Linda Flynn who specializes in alcohol ink painting.  Below is a detail shot from one of her painted tiles.  Linda also makes functional pieces like pencil holder incorporating her tiles, as well as larger framed wall pieces.  She is one of the newest additions to Gallery 54.  Come by the shop to see our selection of her pieces!

News has it that Skaneateles will be making its own "Happy" video in June.  If you haven't heard the song, it is by Pharrell Williams.  The song is really fun, and many cities have made there own videos, so now it is our turn!  Stay tuned for more on this…..many of your favorite Gallery 54 artists will be included.

The birds in these pendants appear to be singing as well.  Both are sterling silver with antique Asian scrimshaw pieces and gemstones.  They were created by Dana Stenson and will be available at the Gallery this month!

What's Coming out of the Kiln?

Sallie Thompson is one of our owner-artists who lives right in Skaneateles.  Sallie is well known for her  soda-fired pottery and unique forms.  She recently took these shots of newly fired pottery in her hand built kiln.  We can't wait to see all this work on the shelves of Gallery 54!  It will be arriving soon, just in time for beautiful May weather, and summer shopping by the lake.
